What is an apostle?
C. Peter Wagner briefly defines an ‘Apostle’ as a: “Christian leader who is gifted, taught, and commissioned by God with the authority to establish the foundational government of the Church within an assigned sphere of ministry by hearing what the Spirit is saying to the churches and by setting things in order accordingly for the advancement of the Kingdom of God.” This is by no means a comprehensive definition.
What does that apostle look like today?
An apostle is a sent one or ambassador. They are sent out with an apostolic team to subdue and transform their culture into Kingdom Culture, the culture of our King.
What do apostles do?
Jesus said recognize a tree by the fruit it bears. Apostles birth, they build, and they govern with the design purpose of God to extend and advance the Kingdom. They are spiritual parents, Fathers/Mothers in the Family of God, and they are Generals in the army of God.
Sometimes they are fathers and mothers and gently nurturing their spiritual children and other times they are Generals leading the Army of God into Spiritual warfare and battle.
They will always cultivate an atmosphere of honor, intimacy with God and relationship with the church.
They are involved with birthing: churches, ministries, ministers. Businesses, and leaders They are also referred to at times as Missionaries and Messengers. They oversee leaders, they are a leader of leaders, a pastor of pastors. They oversee networks or groups of leaders in a network, such as what a Bishop does.
They are Visionaries and Strategists, Not a dreamer, but a visionary. Most men dream big dreams but visionaries wake up and make their dreams become a reality. They are not afraid to put Boots on the Ground! They receive revelation, they live and lead in the spirit, and live and lead on the EDGE – “THE PROPHETIC EDGE”!
Apostles are master builders.
They are anointed to build; they build the Church. When you build the church, you build the Kingdom. Church is a part of the kingdom. Jesus preached Kingdom. Paul preached kingdom, but he taught on the foundation of church and church Government
